The Scottish Grand National at Ayr is one of those races that sorts out the stayers from the pretenders. Four miles on heavy spring ground asks a very specific question. At IGL, we have looked at the early entries and found two horses that make a genuine appeal at the current prices. We advise using Gamdom for this market to lock in the early value.
Scottish Grand National 2026 Ante Post Tips & Best Odds

King Of Answers E/W @ 6.00 on Gamdom
King Of Answers profiles like the exact type of horse you want for this test. He is a Malinas gelding who has taken well to fences, winning two of his five chase starts. Both wins came over trips just under three miles at Kelso, but the real signal came last time out.In the National Hunt Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, he tackled three miles and six furlongs. He was beaten that day but he was the one powering up the hill when others were crying enough. The extra half mile at Ayr looks ideal for him. He stays. He jumps well enough. At 6.00 each-way, IGL sees him as a strong contender with further improvement likely over this trip.
Kim Roque E/W @ 7.00 on Gamdom
Quebecois is a name that interests us after his fine third in the Ultima at Cheltenham, but his participation here is not a given. He needs several defections to make the cut. That risk pushes the focus onto Kim Roque. His fourth in the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at Cheltenham was a lot better than the bare result shows. He was well behind turning for home but finished strongly. In a race where many of the front-runners stopped quickly, Kim Roque was one of very few making inroads from the rear. That kind of finishing effort over three miles suggests four miles might open up even more improvement. We know the plan is fluid and connections have options at Sandown or Punchestown, but if he lines up at Ayr, the 7.00 price will look generous.

IGL Racing Insight
We value proven stamina over guesswork. Both of these picks have demonstrated an ability to handle a true staying test on undulating tracks. The Scottish National field is always competitive, but these two have Cheltenham form that can be rated higher than the raw results suggest. Kim Roque, in particular, has a profile that screams “unexposed stayer” and his current odds reflect a market that may have missed the visual impression he left in the Kim Muir.
